CIRCO AEREO - company portfolio
Circo Aereo is Finland’s first and longest-running contemporary circus company, founded in 1996. Through its artistic work and productions, Circo Aereo has played a significant role in the development of contemporary circus as an independent art form in Finland and in the international breakthrough of Finnish circus in the 2000s.
The company’s multidisciplinary productions have been performed thousands of times in more than 40 countries across five continents. Circo Aereo was awarded the Finnish Government’s Suomi Prize in 2009.
The company works not only with circus artists, but also with professionals from object and movement theatre, visual arts, dance and music. Communication with the audience and the creation of unique experiences are among the company’s core values. A focus on essential elements and a precise choice of expressive means have formed the basis of Circo Aereo’s distinctive style; understated yet highly charged.

okamžik
Okamžik , 2024 —->
Another co-production with Cirk La Putyka (CZ), Okamžik is the 15 year anniversary production of Cirk La Putyka with a 30 member cast of circus artists, actors, dancers and musicians. Designed for the 550 seat circus tent of Cirk La Putyka the performance has played for a full tent one month each year since its premiere.

Etsivät , 2024—>
Co-production with Race Horse Company. Performed at venues across Finland, including Turku City Theatre, Tampere Theatre, Kuopio City Theatre and Oulu Theatre, Joensuu, Kuusamo, Salo, Espoo and several venues in Helsinki.

A co-production with the Metamorfoosi ensemble and &-theatre Espoo. A stage production based on a play by Alice Birch, featuring seven actors.

in_between, 2023
Co-production with Chamäleon Variéte Theater in Berlin. Performance featured an international cast and was played in Berlin 125 times, receiving highly positive reviews from press, audience and colleagues.

Dreamy cabaret co-produced together with Cirk La Putyka (CZ) featuring a multi-talented 10 member cast. After four years the performance continues to play and tour successfully.

Slapstick Sonata
Slapstick Sonata, 2012-2022
Classical music met slapstick and acrobatics in a piece that toured for 10 years all over Europe and twice on a one-month tour in the USA.
Co-produced together with Czech Republic’s first and foremost contemporary circus company Cirk La Putyka, Finnish National Theater and Czech National Theater’s New Stage.
Petit Mal
Petit Mal, 2010-2014
Pieces of wood, car tyres, circus apparatus with the feel of having been found in a junkyard.

Centre Dramatique de Caen, Petit Mal is a contemporary circus cult classic that became an international success performed around the world
over 140 times 2010-2014. References to and appropriations from the piece can still be spotted worldwide today.

A co-production with UMO Jazz Orchestra. Performances in 2005–2008, including at the Helsinki Festival and Parc de la Villette in Paris.
Trippo
Trippo, 2004-2008
A performance for children. The production toured extensively in theatres and at festivals, with more than 120 performances in Finland, Norway, France and Sweden.

Baby Dough, 2003-2008
Juggling, contemporary dance and live music. Numerous performances in theatres and at festivals across Finland and Europe, including Täydenkuun Tanssit in Pyhäjärvi, JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, Manilla Festival in Turku, Suburb Festival in Stockholm, the Brescia Contemporary Circus Festival in Italy, the Finnish Institute in Paris, and the 100% Finlande Festival in Nexon, France.
